These are the words he had to spell:
Pueblo (Round 1: 67 contestants)
Pistachio (Round 2: 48 contestants)
Illuminati (Round 3: 33 contestants)
Succotash (Round 4: 23 contestants)
Brontophobia (Round 5: 17 contestants)
Planisphere (Round 6: 5 contestants) (He got this word incorrect but so did everyone else :))
Propinquity (Round 7: 5 contestants)
Heredon??? (Round 8: 3 contestants) (He got this word incorrect also. We don't even know how to spell it? 2/3 got their words incorrect so the one that got it correct got a challenge word that he got correct so he was automatically the first place winner. CR and the other contestant had to battle for 2nd and 3rd place.)
Effloresce (incorrect but the other contestant got it incorrect also)
Porringer (CORRECT. He won 2nd place!!!)
He was awarded at $1400 scholarship and many other gift cards and passes. We are so proud to have an amazing speller in our family. He was lucky because this is the first year that they have awarded prizes to the top 3 winners. In past years only the first place winner won a trip to Washington DC to participate in the national spelling bee.
This is before... ALL of us were sooooo nervous!
Here we go...
