When we went to bed at night we told ourselves... we should be able to wake up in the morning no problem and since we were so tired we didn't set an alarm. Well that is a mistake when you are jetlagged and the room is dark! And you have a tour at 10:45am! We woke up at 9:45am. We had to shower, eat and we still had no idea how to get around Venice! We wandered the streets trying to figure it it out. Finally we figured out what boat we needed to get on. By this time it was like 10:45am. The boat moved nice and slow and made lots of stops along the way! We were on our way to Doge's Palace. We finally made it there like at 11:45am. They allowed us to go into the palace but we did not get a tour. Oh well, we just explored on our own.
This was the view of the palace from the boat.
The cealings of the palace looked like this:
The walls:
The ballroom:
The outside:
We then just wandered the streets and took some selfies :)
It started to rain and it was kind of chilli so we went back to our flat, put on some warmer clothes, rested for a few minutes and then went back out. By then the rain had stopped so we decided to on on our gondola ride. Ahhh so beautiful and romantic, just like I always dreamed it would be.
This is the famous Rialto Bridge (the oldest bridge crossing the grand canal):
Venice at night was our favorite. It was so peaceful and quiet. During the day there were so many people everywhere that it was hard to walk but at night it was so different.
We couldn't end the day without gelato... this time I had a crepe with gelato. It was to die for!!!
Ahhh bellissimo!!! This brings back so many good memories of our trip and time in Italy.
Distance walked today 6.0 miles or 14,284 steps.
