Guatemala Day 5 - Yaxha - Aug 3

After our eventful day the day before we were really hoping that things went well today. And for the most part it was a relaxing (well as much as we can relax while on vacation and there is so much to see and do) day. We were told that we would not be able to go to Tikal. The protest was still going on but there was another park called Yaxha that they could take us to. It's not as big as Tikal but at least we could see some of the ruins. To put it in perspective. It was like we were going to see the Empire State Building but it was closed so we had to go to the Chrysler Building instead.

We really couldn't see our hotel the night before cause it was dark but his was the beautiful view that we woke up to.

There were these cute pathways connecting the separate cabins. It was beautiful!

Our messy bed in the morning but we slept in the jungle! With a few lizards and all! 😯

Cee Ryle's bed. He was finally finishing better!

Our cabana

We went across the street to eat with the rest of the group since our tour included breakfast and this is what we saw a caravan of police cars! What!!!??? We don't know why but we were a little worried that something was happening and we would be stuck or something.

The view from the restaurant.
All ready for another exciting day!

Huevos Rancheros for breakfast YUM!

We didn't have time to swim but this place would be fun to come back to!

Our tour guide for the day.

On the van/bus to Yaxha. Derick doesn't have to drive!!!

Getting instructions

Lots of steps to the top. No elevators here!

We made it to the top!

Ahh so steep!

OK!!! Scary!!!

Interesting fact: These hallucinogenic centipedes can be found in Yaxha.

It was a fun day after all!

We were then taken to Flores to have lunch and then to the airport so we could return to Guate.

A cute little restaurant that we found. The kids just wanted to sit and bask on the free WIFI.
Limonada Amelia con Hierbabuena. The most delicious drink in the world!

Back on the plane.

Gorgeous view from the plane.

After Papi, Mami and Chepe picked us up we were kind of hungry for ice cream but could not find an ice cream shop. All we found was this little tienda on the street. So we got ice cream there and Tortrix and whatever else looked good to us!
We had a hotel scheduled for this night but my parents had stayed there before we got to Guate and they said it wasn't very good. So we cancelled that reservation and my parents found this house/hostel type place. We really experienced it all on this trip!
