Guatemala Day 6 - Atitlan - Aug. 4

First of all... Happy birthday to Casey!!! His birthday present couldn't get any better. We are in Guatemala, we are taking him out to breakfast and later we will be going zip lining in Atitlan.

This is what our place looked like last night.

The loading of the van once again.

Fresh tortillas being made at the restaurant.

This is what we call a Chapin breakfast

After breakfast we got on our way to go to Chichicastenango. We wanted to go there on Thursday because it is famous for it's awesome market day. As we are driving, the traffic stopped again!?!? We asked and we were told that it was another protest!!! No, no more!!! So this time we were smart and instead of staying put we turned around and drove against traffic so we wouldn't have to be stuck. Cars were going slow but it was still scary. But it's a total Guatemala thing to do!

The protest had only started like 15 minutes before we got there so the kids said it was because we were dawdling at the restaurant. But really? we had to take advantage of the WIFI.

We made it out of that protest area and took some back roads to go to Atitlan. We had to skip Chichicastenango cause there were no other roads there. We went through some small cute towns and when it was bathroom time we stopped at this little place. I thought it was cute so I took this picture.

The school girls in uniform.

Who knows where we were going but Casey kept us going with the maps on his phone.

We had a hard time turning cause the road was so small and a car was parked on the side that my dad had to get out to guide Derick.

We were on small roads and we had to cross a river cause the bridge was broken! While we were crossing we saw these pick up trucks with all this stuff on top of them.

We made it to the top of the mountain when we could see the Lake Atitlan. It was beautiful!

There are always people selling stuff.

Jonas holding the baby of the lady that was selling stuff. the baby was only a couple weeks old but she has to work so she takes the baby with her. We are so blessed in the USA!

My favorite son!!!

We made it to our hotel/house. This one was probably the nicest one that we stayed at. We changed and got ready for zip lining.

We are ready to go!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CASEY!!!

After zip lining we went back to the house to change and go out into the town. This place was gorgeous!

Shayden being a bat???

Guatemalan elote asado! YUM!

We couldn't find much to eat so we ate sandwiches on the street.

We had to celebrate Casey's birthday and we found a crepe store so that's his birthday cake.

Walking back to the house.

Brianna was so tired she just crashed on the floor.
