25th Anniversary - Day 6 - Rome [Vatican City] to Florence (May 4, 2015)

Today we took the metro to the Vatican. There was a long line that wrapped around the outside. It seemed really long but it didn't take as long as we thought to get through.

Might as well get a selfie while in line.

The line we were in was just to get us through security so we could see St. Peter's Basilica. These cathedrals are just so ornate and huge! And there is pretty much one in every corner.

We decided to pay so that we could climb up to the top of the basilica. There were lots of steps!

This is a view from almost the top.

And then we kept going... You can see that I was kind of tilting cause we kept going around and around.

And then to the top! What a beautiful view:

These statues are all around the very top.

When we got done we went to get in the line for the Sistine Chapel. The line was crazy long and we had to catch our train at 4:00pm and by now it was noon. Hmmm. As always there were people coming around the line asking for people who wanted to skip the line and get in faster. This was the only place that I did not book ahead of time and that was a mistake. We decided to pay the extra money so that we could get in faster, after all we didn't want to come all this way and miss the Sistine Chapel. We didn't have enough cash so we had to go to an atm and by then our group had gone in so we took a little pizza lunch break while we waited for the next group.

We finally were in but we had to follow the crowds to see the actual Sistine Chapel. It just kept going and going and going. There was lots to see along the way but it took us about an hour to finally get there. These are pictures we took along the way.

And there it is...  Michelangelo's Creation of Adam:

And that was it for Rome. On to our next stop... Florence. Here we are on this fancy train. As you can see I am exhausted and glad to be sitting.

Once in Florence, we got to our hotel room and then just went on a walk to find something to eat. This was a small cute chapel we found along our walk.

Distance walked: 8.4 miles or 9,485 steps
